Xotica Sopropo, Balsempeer

Also called bitter melon and bitter cucumber. Pre-cultivate indoors at the end of March-June at 22-25°C, 4 weeks before planting out. Plant out in the greenhouse when the risk of frost is over and the soil temperature is at least 15°C. The plants need to be tied up. Hand-pollinate the female flowers with a brush. Core and wash the fruit well before cooking. Good for stuffing with meat or fish for baking, and for Turkish pasta dishes.
