Colorful and popular summer flower in shades of yellow, orange and red. Great for growing in hanging baskets, balcony boxes, against trellises and as a ground cover. The flowers can be eaten, decorative in salads. Unripe seeds can be used as capers. Thrives in lean and well-drained soil. In overly nutritious soil, the leaves develop at the expense of the flowers. Water regularly and provide little nutrition. Place the seeds in lukewarm water for 1 day to help them germinate.
