Have you always dreamed of an herb garden with harvest-ready plants, ready to be picked and eaten? It doesn't have to be so complicated. With cultivated and ready-to-pick peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, or strawberries, all you need to do is plant them out to enjoy fruits and vegetables - ready to pick.

What do you actually need to think about to succeed with your harvest-ready plants in the summer? It is important to know how the plant will thrive and grow. Did you know, for example, that strawberries thrive well in hanging baskets? There they hang high, airy and without the risk of being eaten by snails. In a hanging basket, the risk of strawberries wilting due to moisture or contact with the soil is also reduced. If you have knowledge of how the plants thrive best, the likelihood of a larger harvest and more enjoyment for you also increases.

Pick strawberries, tomatoes, eggplant, and chili

There are many harvest-ready plants to choose from, and most thrive in sunny areas on balconies, in gardens, and in planters.

Harvest-ready chili peppers - thrive in hot sun with well-drained and nutrient-rich soil. Dry quickly between waterings.

Strawberries in a hanging basket - thrive in sun or partial shade, and in clayey, well-drained soil. The soil should almost dry out before watering.

Ready-to-pick eggplant - the purple-black eggplants are ready to be picked when they start to soften. Thrive in sun with nutrient-rich and moist soil - preferably in a greenhouse. Available in large and small varieties.

Snack bell pepper - needs sun and nutrient-rich soil. Plant it in a large pot and water evenly. Let the plant dry out between waterings.

Ready-to-pick cherry tomatoes - need light, protection, and warmth. Also need well-drained soil with nutrients. Can be placed outside, on a windowsill, and in a greenhouse.

Ready-to-pick cucumber - perfect in a pot and thrives in sun with nutrient-rich and moist soil. Do not use nitrogen-rich fertilizer.

Several of the plants can survive for several years, and can overwinter in a cool, bright environment if you bring them in before winter comes. This allows you to harvest vegetables from the same plant year after year.

Customize the plants to the outdoor environment before placing them outside

Remember that many plants ready for harvest need to be acclimated to an outdoor environment before they will thrive outdoors. This means that for about a week, you should gradually acclimate the plants to the outdoor climate by bringing them outside and letting them stay outdoors a little longer each day. After about a week, you can plant the chili, peppers, or cherry tomatoes outdoors. Acclimation can result in a stronger plant. If you don't have time to acclimate the plant, you can protect it from the sun and cold with a fleece cloth.

Not only fruits and plants are ready to be picked right away. Cultivated herbs are also perfect to fill the kitchen garden with. This can be anything from thyme to basil, peppermint, oregano, and sage.
