Create your own fall wreath with heather

You can easily make this pink dream of an autumn wreath by placing pink Calluna 'Garden Girls' in the center and green Calluna 'Skyline' on the outside and inside of the wreath. By using berry myrtle as decoration, you add the finishing touch. Simply insert the berry myrtle into the wreath after it is tied together.

In this wreath, the natural autumn colors shine. We have chosen green Calluna 'Skyline' heather, white and pink Calluna 'Garden Girls' heather, red hypericum and ostrich fern. As an extra decoration, we have chosen rowan berries. The plants have slightly different colors and textures, which together bring out the autumn feeling in a nice way.

Step 1

Choose which plants you want in the wreath. This step-by-step guide shows how we made the wreath in natural autumn colors. You can follow the same procedure to make the pink wreath - or a wreath with your own favorite plants.

Tip! Cut and prepare the material for the wreath in advance, so you don't have to do it when your hands are full of tying the wreath. Cut the heather branches at the edge of the pot so you get longer branches to work with.

Step 2

Wrap the flower thread around the straw stem

Make a small bouquet and wrap it tightly around the stem. Let the bend of the heather follow the circle of the wreath.

Tip! Remember to tie quite tightly, as the plants shrink when they dry. If you have a small straw wreath, it is important not to make too large bouquets, as the wreath may become so thick that the hole in the middle is covered.,

Step 4

Continue to attach the bouquets around the wreath. Place the new bouquets in a way that hides the thread that attaches the previous bouquet. Make sure to cover the straw base both inside and outside. Check the wreath from different angles to see if the base is visible anywhere.

Tip! To create a uniform wreath, it's a good idea to attach the bouquets in a pattern. For example, you can alternate between green and pink/white heather bouquets, or let every third bouquet contain hypericum. Experiment to see what looks nice - only your imagination sets the limits!

Step 5

Once you have gone all the way around, take a final bouquet, lift up your first bouquet, and thread the new bouquet underneath. Wrap gently with the thread, so the stems are not pressed flat. This way, the flower thread on the last bouquet is hidden, making the wreath smooth and without visible transitions.

Step 6

When you are satisfied with the wreath, all that remains is to secure the flower thread on the back. Thread the thread under the existing threads and wrap it securely.

Tip! If the wreath turned out slightly uneven, and maybe the straw base is visible in some places? No problem! It's completely fine to tuck in extra branches under the flower thread afterwards.

Step 7

With a little decoration, the wreath becomes even more impressive. We have chosen to use rowan berries as extra decoration in this variation. Attach the floral wire to the decoration and wrap it around. Then secure the floral wire to the back of the stem.

Step 8

Now all that remains is to find a place where the wreath can shine. Hang it up and show it off. You can use a nice rope, ribbon, or string to hang it up. It becomes like a decoration in itself.

Tip! When the wreath has served its purpose, you can remove what you have attached to the straw wreath. You can even use the stem again next time you make a wreath.
