Plants on balconies and terraces
Garden
Make your balcony or terrace lush with green plants and flowers. With large pots and balcony boxes, you can create a lovely oasis—even high up in the middle of the city.

Planting on balconies and patios
- Seasonal plants on the balcony
Seasonal plants are ideal for planting in outdoor pots. They are annuals that bloom for a long period between the spring and autumn frosts. Many varieties are also grown solely for their beautiful foliage.
- Perennials and other long-lived plants – Perfect for the terrace
Shrubs, trees, climbing plants, and perennials work beautifully in large pots and containers. They have a shorter blooming period, but their leaves, branches, and overall size are some of the qualities that make these plants so appealing. If you have a large area to decorate, big plants are great for creating volume and a cozy atmosphere. Trees and shrubs that spread in both height and width provide a lovely frame for a veranda or balcony. Many ground-covering perennials also work well as undergrowth in large pots.
- Vegetables and herbs
Growing your own vegetables and herbs is popular—even in pots on the balcony. There are many types of seeds and seedlings to choose from. Harvest often, and more will grow! You can also opt for perennial plants like blackcurrants, gooseberries, strawberries, and wild strawberries.

How to take care of the plants
- Choose the right planter
You can really plant in almost anything. The important thing is that outdoor pots are large enough to give plants access to extra nutrients and water. To regulate moisture, it’s best to have one or more holes in the bottom so excess water can drain out. - The right soil
Use summer flower soil or garden soil when planting seasonal and perennial plants, and place about 10 cm of leca pebbles at the bottom. When planting vegetables and berries, we recommend using herb and vegetable soil. - Fertilizing
Add fertilizer regularly throughout the season. For your edible plants, you can choose an organic option. - Watering
You should water regularly to keep your plants lush. Feel the soil with your finger a bit down into the pot—it should be moist. On hot days, it’s best to water early in the morning and/or in the evening so the plants get the most benefit from the water.
