Here are the plant trends of 2025
Norwegians are more interested in indoor plants than ever before, and the greatest interest is in easy-to-care-for plants. We would like to create harmonious and natural indoor environments with green plants, at the same time as many people need plants that are relatively easy to care for. These are the plant trends that apply now.

Did you know..
- Interest in indoor plants is greater than ever, regardless of age or gender
- Interest in green indoor plants applies to all age groups, but is particularly high among Norwegians aged 30–39, where a full 66 percent show interest
- Women are generally more interested in indoor plants and they are especially interested in easy-care plants
During the pandemic, interest in collecting unique and unusual plants grew as people spent much more time at home. But today, easy-care plants are back at the top of popularity.
Trend 1 – Easy-care indoor plants are most popular
Easy-care plants top the list of Norwegians' favorites, with almost 6 out of 10 preferring this type of plant. Interest varies between households and is higher among those with children.

The next big trend is about creating relaxing and harmonious indoor environments with the help of plants.
- We use plants to reflect how the seasons change. We replace the Christmas flowers with fresh green plants to get a fresh start to the new year. Before Easter, we get a jump start on spring by starting with spring flowers indoors, says Julia Romberg, category director for dry goods at Plantasjen.
Trend 2 – Plants create natural and calm indoor environments
A growing interest in sustainability and the need for relaxation in a stressful world means that more and more people want to create natural environments indoors. Plants help us and contribute to making it relaxing and harmonious at home. A full 74 percent of Norwegians believe this. Among those with a great interest in sustainability, a full 83 percent believe that plants contribute to a calm and harmonious indoor environment.

The results of the report show that Norwegians believe that plants contribute to our well-being. It is not just about surrounding yourself with green plants at home, but also the relaxation that comes from taking care of them. More than half of all Norwegians find this relaxing and this is especially evident among those who very often or quite often feel stressed. A full 51 percent of Norwegians also get energy and inspiration from taking care of indoor plants, this is especially true for women.
- Surrounding yourself with plants is relaxing. When I plant and am in the garden, I let go of everything around me. You become present in the moment and that is valuable when you live a busy life, says Johanna Nordenskiöld, category manager for garden plants at Plantasjen.

Our category manager gives you some simple tips and advice on caring for the plants:
- Although the plants are easy to care for, you can ensure that they stay healthy for a long time with three simple measures, according to Plantasjen's category manager for indoor plants Johan Tordenheim:
- Use draining pots. This allows excess water to drain out, preventing the plant roots from standing in water and risking rot
- Use plant nutrition in the light months, when the plants grow the most and have the greatest need for extra nutrition
- Take cuttings to promote new growth - this makes the plants denser and healthier, and you get more plants!
The results come from Plantasjen's trend report:
Since 2012, Plantasjen has produced the annual Plantetrends report. The report is based on a consumer survey about plants and gardening as well as interviews with a number of experts in the areas affected by the trends. With the report, we at Plantasjen want to understand how consumers in Norway view gardening and cultivation, and what is in focus of their interest. Since the report is produced several years in a row, we also have the opportunity to continuously monitor how various trends develop and how consumer interests and preferences change over time. Green indoor plants are the first part of the report.
