How to decorate your Christmas tree like a pro
Christmas is full of traditions – but few things create as much atmosphere as a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. To find out how to truly make your tree shine, we've spoken with our Category Director, Julia Romberg-Stenersen, a true Christmas enthusiast – and self-proclaimed "cat lady."

Classic Christmas in red and green. A tree decorated with gnomes, bows, nostalgic ornaments, and warm details – perfect for the traditional Christmas atmosphere.
– I actually have several trees at home. One that is ready for the first Sunday of Advent, one in the basement living room – and the cat gets its own in the kitchen. You don't need to choose one style. It's allowed to have several trees!, says Julia.
And that's why Julia guides us through two of this year's big Christmas trends: classic and elegant.

The Classic Style – Warm, Nostalgic & Playful
For you who want that cozy, traditional Christmas feeling. Here, we bring out red and green, bows, angels, and small memories from childhood Christmas celebrations.

🎀
How to get the look:
- Red bows, felt hearts, and nostalgic metal figures
- Small animals in felt and glass – birds, mice, reindeer, and fun characters
- Mini glass baubles and decorations we “remember from Grandma”
- A touch of humor – perhaps a small raccoon or cat ornament
– This style is a mix of traditional decorations and slightly more fun variations, says Julia.
The Elegant Style
This year, the elegant style consists of two expressions: one natural and one with deep burgundy and gold tones:
Natural Elegance – Calm, Organic & Warm
A softer, more nature-inspired Christmas tree – with details that add life and movement.

🪶
How to get the look:
- Gold, beige, wood, and natural tones
- Birds, feathers, and organically shaped decor
- Large textile bows for a softer expression
- Decorations that feel warm and handmade
Bows and birds are extremely important this year, she says. – It makes the tree so much warmer than with just baubles.
Burgundy & Gold – Luxury, Depth & Ralph Lauren Vibes
For you who want a tree that exudes elegance and tradition at the same time.

✨
How to get the look:
- Burgundy, dark red, and tone-on-tone color harmonies
- Gold and metallic details
- Brown tones and elements with leather
- A combination of modern luxury and classic warmth
– This reminds me of a Ralph Lauren Christmas, explains Julia. – Deep tones, metal, leather, and a little nostalgia. A micro-trend I hope we see more of.
A Pro's Best Tricks
– I am very happy when all the baubles hang perfectly straight, she laughs. – But my cat has its own plans for the Christmas tree. That's why I replace the threads with small rubber bands – much more cat-friendly!
- The rubber band trick
Use small, clear hair elastics instead of string. This makes the baubles hang straight and close to the branch – and they stay put better if you have curious pets or small children in the house. - Not everything has to go on the tree
Use decorations on gifts, in wreaths, on the table, or on the bookshelf. It provides so much more cohesion. - Bows elevate the look
The large, soft bows are super trendy this year – and give the tree both fullness and texture. - Decorate in layers
Start on the inside and work your way out. Hang large, matte baubles close to the trunk for depth and glow, and finish with smaller, glittering decorations on the outer branches. This results in a tree that looks both full and professional. - Distribute colors evenly
Choose 2–3 main colors and distribute them harmoniously around the tree. A small tip: Take a couple of steps back and look at the overall picture before moving on. - Use texture to create life
Combine glass, textile, metal, wood, and natural materials. It makes the tree more interesting and provides a nice balance between soft and shiny. - Think asymmetry
A professional tree doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical. Let some elements "break the pattern" – a bow, a bird, or a figure – for a more lively expression. - Don't forget the lights
Wrap the light string a little inside the tree before placing it on the outside. This gives a warm, glowing depth and makes the entire tree more atmospheric. - Finish with statement details
Large bows, an elegant tree topper, or a special ornament gives the tree personality and ties the style together.
A tree that is easy to set up – and that can withstand the chaos of Christmas
– I bought the smallest Kongsberg tree this year, she says. – It is so easy to assemble – click&connect – and I avoid loose cords. Simply ingenious.
The Kongsberg 150 cm is the perfect tree for those who want a tree that is not too imposing - and also excellent as a second tree. Read more about Kongsberg Christmas trees here.
Finish with a little magic
When the tree is decorated to perfection, there is one detail that makes the job even easier:
– The whole family loves this magic wand. It gives the decorating a little extra sprinkle of magic!
