Spring cleaning in the garden
Garden care
As soon as winter releases its grip on the plants, it's time for spring cleaning to make room for new shoots and spring plants. Enjoy the light and birdsong while getting your daily dose of fresh air and exercise.

Make it spring-like after winter
- Spring-ready outdoor space
Both balconies and terraces may need a sweep in the spring. Empty the pots of withered plants and refresh with new and lovely spring flowers such as pansies, daffodils, and grape hyacinths. To add some volume and size to the pots, boxwood balls and willow trees are nice together with the spring flowers. Wipe down the outdoor furniture or buy spring's stylish new items. With cushions and blankets, it becomes more elegant, and it's also lovely to have on cool evenings. - Cleaning the garden bed
Clear away leaves and cut away old plant debris. Some weeds may have already started to appear, so an early clean-up makes it easier to deal with weeds later in the season. Improve the soil with cow manure and fertilize with garden fertilizer. - The lawn in spring
The lawn may look a bit sad in early spring, but with a little nutrition and care, it will soon be green and beautiful again. Moss grows at lower temperatures than grass, so it has a bit of a head start. By raking the lawn with an iron rake, the grass roots get air and more strength to fight against the moss. Fertilize the lawn with chicken manure or other lawn fertilizer; these all contain a lot of nitrogen, which makes the lawn green and vibrant. - Pruning trees and bushes
Trees and bushes can be pruned in early spring, but once they start to bud and turn green, it's best to leave them alone. Damaged or withered branches can be cut away. Bushes that bloom early in the season are advantageously pruned after flowering. Cut or saw away old branches to refresh. Fertilize and improve the soil around trunks and branches. Be sure to clear away weeds and grass closest to the root so the plant has the strength to develop. Use garden fertilizer that provides the plant with all the nutrients it needs. - Clean away everything old, but leave some behind
Clean away old plant debris and leaves and help the plants awaken after their winter rest. With good hedge shears and other tools, it's easy to make the garden and patio spring-ready. A little leaf and plant debris can advantageously be left between bushes and perennials. This rots and provides the soil with nutrients and structure. Collect everything you have cleaned up in a basket or wheelbarrow, and do a little sorting before you put it in the compost so that the decomposition process is faster.
